New Jersey's Healthcare Workplace Violence Prevention Conference

April 11, 2024 | 9am - 4pm ET
NJHA Conference and Event Center
760 Alexander Road, Princeton, NJ 08543

Introduction

Workplace Violence (WPV) in the healthcare sector has grown in prominence following the COVID-19 pandemic and is now acknowledged as a significant hazard for healthcare workers. Incidents of attacks and harassment have reached a critical level for many healthcare professionals across the United States. The New Jersey Healthcare Coalition Emergency Management Support Team's primary objective in establishing the Workplace Violence Committee is to create a unified platform that brings together key stakeholders in the healthcare industry. This platform aims to foster collaboration, share resources and innovative ideas, and offer comprehensive training programs to healthcare professionals throughout the state of New Jersey.

Juvare Advisory Board

Decisions regarding EMResource system modifications are determined by the Juvare Advisory Board. The board is comprised of hospital, public health, EMS and other state/local healthcare representatives throughout the state. The board meets monthly to identify, discuss and prioritize potential system enhancements, and develop implementation strategies for any changes to the system as necessary.

Statewide Workplace Violence Committee

The committee is comprised of experts in the field from several different member types of healthcare stakeholders throughout the state of New Jersey. The committee meets bi-monthly to identify, discuss and prioritize Workplace Violence Prevention. The WPV Committee serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it functions as a valuable resource for committee members, offering essential tools, support, and knowledge to address workplace violence effectively. Secondly, it acts as a channel for open and transparent communication among a diverse range of stakeholders, including various member types and organizations. This transparency is crucial in combating the issue of workplace violence in the healthcare sector, ensuring that all relevant organizations are informed and engaged in finding solutions. By establishing a strong collaborative network and promoting transparency. The WPV Committee aims to drive meaningful change in how healthcare organizations and workers address and prevent workplace violence, ultimately creating a safer and more secure environment for healthcare professionals in New Jersey.

Upcoming Meetings

Monday, Dec. 4 | 11am (via Microsoft Teams)
Topics/Follow-ups:
  • Active Shooter Response: Learning how to plan for and survive a shooting event
  • Stop the Bleed: Learning how to save a life by applying pressure, dressing, and a tourniquet
  • Patient De-escalation: De-escalation is an essential skill for healthcare professionals, as it helps create a safer environment and is the process of defusing tense situations before they escalate into violence. In a healthcare setting, de-escalation is not only about physical safety but also about maintaining a therapeutic and caring environment for patients. Successful de-escalation can prevent potential harm to patients and protect the well-being of healthcare providers
